FITNESS, HEALTH & CONFIDENCE FOR ALL
Karate
We teach the Wado Ryu and Shotokan styles of karate.
This was the instructor's first fighting style, and he was inducted into it in 1989. This was with a formal club, though he had been training on his own in the discipline since 1986.
Karate is a great style for discipline, fitness, stamina and strength. It places a large emphasis on forms, or kata, which are intended to maximise the karateka's force against an imaginary opponent.
There is a lot of discussion, especially on-line, of the merits of Karate versus other styles as a fighting discipline. As ever, it is more down to the student and his / her ability, rather than any problem with the system in itself.
Following the attainment of fourth dan in Karate in 2007, the instructor was awarded his 5th Dan in 2018.
